Our Trip to Dublin by Elaine Meaney

On May 19th the 5th and 6th class of Cooraclare N.S. went on a school trip to visit where the 1916 Rising took place.

My Mam woke me at 5:30. I was exhausted. I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. Next I went to Laura`s house where Aine`s Mother brought us to Ennis. We got the train from Ennis to Limerick. We got on another train to Heuston.

I sat with Heidi and across from Marta and Katie. We played a game of cards. Then the cart came around.I got a cup of Tea. It wasnt that nice. We were on carraige B which was beside first class. Edel was on first class so I went to visit her.

When we got off the train at Hueston we went on the Luas. We got off at Jervis. We walked to Trinity. We walked over the Halfpenny bridge which was 200 years old that day. When we got to Trinity we met our tour guide Eoin.

On the walking tour we went to O Connell bridge. We then went to the Daniel O Connell monument. We took a picture there. Then we went to the GPO where there was a flag raising cermony. Next we went to Moore Street. Eoin brought us back to Trinity where we had lunch.

We ate lunch on a bench in Trinity. After we got ice-cream. We packed up and walked to the Dail. We met Dr. Harty, Timmy Dooley and Gerry Adams. We went into a room and asked Dr. Harty questions. We walked out of the Dail and walked across to the National History Muesum.

We saw bog bodies in the Muesum. We later went into the gift shop. I got a key ring. Then we went to the Natural History Museums where we saw stuffed animals. There were lots of animals. Afterwards we went outside to meet the bus.

The guides name was Jeff. He was very nice. He showed us all the places where the Rising took place. We went to Kilmainham Jail where the 14 men were executed.

We got back to Hueston and the teachers gave us 10 minutes to get food. We got back to the platform and the teachers said get on the train. On the train home we were all tired but nobody fell asleep.

My favourite part was the train up and down and going to the Muesums. I learnt alot. We had a great time and I cant wait to go to Dublin again.
